Redeeming Love

Through the Cross

We all want it. The cowboy Casanova, Hallmark movie kind of love. We all yearn for the day when we can relax in the presence of that special someone by the fire with some hot chocolate (can't you tell I'm ready for Christmas?).

Now this is where I, Dylan, come in. Cowboy Casanova IN THE FLESH. Guys, listen up. You don’t have to have the same ole cheesy plot that every hallmark movie seems to go by, but you do need to be loving and spontaneous. Keep in mind that you don’t want to be arrogant like you know you’re "all that and a bag of tater chips," but you do want confidence. You want to reassure your spouse (or potential spouse) that you are the second most capable person of taking care of their needs. Do you know who the first most capable is? Who is #1?

We were having a rough week. It was a tough point for us academically and financially. The stress was beginning to take its toll on our relationship and we were both hours apart (he gets grumpy when he misses me). From my perspective, our communication skills basically consisted of complaints and disagreements. Then the preaching began Sunday morning.

Many believers have heard that marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. This preacher presented something I had never thought about - and it hit me hard. He challenged us to look at our spouse through the eyes of Jesus and the cross WHILE sacrificing yourself daily to the Lord. Had I been doing that?

Had we been doing that? Too many times we look at our spouse as something we want them to be when in reality they are what God wants them to be. Say for instance, your praying for patience. Well God has the easiest way possible to test your patience by using your spouse. God made us to go through this life together. That means we are side by side everyday. We are the number 1 method God uses to answer our Spouse’s prayers and needs. So look at your significant other as someone God is using to answer your prayers and strengthen your Christian walk.
